The war on Ukraine has left 20 schools in Milwaukee's sister city of Irpin damaged or destroyed. Now, Advanced Wireless, Inc. of Franklin is pitching in to ensure kids can learn and stay connected.

Nearly two years into the war in Ukraine, communities are trying to rebuild in Irpin.

"The tragedy and the trauma today is as great as when the invasion first happened," said Darryl Morin, President & CEO, Advanced Wireless, Inc.

"More than $135 billion in damage," said Halyna Salapata, president of Wisconsin Ukrainians.

"This municipality saw 20 of their schools either completely destroyed or severely damaged," Morin said.

Students are doing what they can to get an education while their home remains a battlefield.

"Many students are forced to attend school online," Salapata said.

"Chances are very high that they are going to be interrupted by some sirens.. And they’re going to have to go down to a bomb shelter," Morin said.

The need for working internet access is critical. Now, Wisconsin-based Advanced Wireless is stepping in to help.

"Donations of Wi-Fi access points holds immense significance," Salapata said.

With the help of a variety of partners, the company is donating 800 Wi-Fi access points – specifically made to withstand major damage.

"Allow enough Wi-Fi coverage in their schools but in their bomb shelters as well," Morin said.

The donations are not just benefiting students, they are helping connect all of Irpin.

"Provide the needed coverage for doctors and nurses to provide critical care in their hospitals," Morin said.
