MILWAUKEE - A child suffers burns across his body after investigators say a Milwaukee man poured boiling water on him. While the 5-year-old was treated for his injuries, police say Hurtis Lilly went on the run.
"Doing something to an adult is one thing, but when you take someone that’s defenseless like a child it just makes it even worse," the U.S. Marshal on the case said.
Days before Christmas 2022, investigators said instead of happiness, Lilly brought pain to a little boy.

"Especially around the holidays, there’s no reason for it, for a grown adult to be harming a child," the marshal said.

Milwaukee police were called after the 5-year-old went to the hospital with second and third-degree burns on his face, neck, shoulders and legs. The boy told investigators Lilly punched him in the nose and then poured boiling water on him.
"I don’t know why he did it, but he did – or that’s what he’s accused of – and he needs to be held accountable for it," the investigator said.
U.S. Marshals have been looking for Lilly ever since. They said he has been moving around southeast Wisconsin. The 33-year-old has ties to Milwaukee and Racine. He is believed to be armed.

"He has no regard for anybody else, so I would assume that he’s probably got some kind of weapon," the marshal said.
