Woman accused of stealing personal info. from Election Comm.
MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of an individual whom they say confessed to stealing personal information from the Milwaukee County Election Commission Office.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered his Criminal Investigation Division to do an investigation in February after receiving a complaint of stolen identities and fraudulent credit card applications from employees at the Milwaukee County Election Commission Office.
Detectives identified a suspect through their investigation.
Sheriff’s detectives arrested the suspect on Thursday, March 20th, and she confessed to stealing personal information from the employees’ purses and then applying for credit cards in their names.
She subsequently made fraudulent online purchases with the cards, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The subject was booked on two felony counts of Unauthorized use of an individual’s personal identifying information or documents, and one misdemeanor count of Theft.
The Class H felony counts each carry a penalty of up to six years in prison.
