Woman rowing to raise money for breast cancer sexually assaulted
UPPER PENINSULA -- A woman rowing around Lake Michigan was sexually assaulted, and now, Michigan State Police are searching for the man who attacked her.
Jenn Gibbons was rowing the 1,500-mile perimeter of Lake Michigan to raise money for breast cancer research.
Sunday morning, July 22nd in the U.P., Gibbons was attacked and sexually assaulted by a man driving a bright yellow Jeep Wrangler.
Normally, FOX6 News would not identify sexual assault victims, but Gibbons' own Facebook page has a posting about the attack, with a plea for anyone with inofrmation to come forward.
The post comes from members of Gibbons' team, who say: "Please know Jenn is safe and in good hands. A statement from her about the trip and her future plans will be made soon. Please help us find this criminal."
Michigan State Police describe the suspect as a white man in his 30s, approximately 5'8" to 6' tall with a fair amount of facial stubble. The man has light eyes, an average to athletic build and shorter, well-kept hair.
Police say the man was wearing a grayish green T-shirt, jean shorts and tennis shoes.
