MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, along with the Bel Canto Chorus, teamed up at a Milwaukee area church on Saturday to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.
The music was accompanied by the words of Dr. King to help bridge the gap of history, with lessons that can be used today.
The concert was held at the Holy Redeemer Church of God in Christ in Milwaukee. The director of the orchestra put Saturday's concert together because he had a purpose. "It was about the words and the music moving the audience to stand and clap and to say amen. I think it was the perfect way to celebrate Martin Luther King," Director Richard Hynson said.
The words of the music were taken from letters and speeches of Dr. King.
One letter in particular stood out to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. "The reading of the letter of the Birmingham jail was very meaningful and the way it was all weaved together. I think everybody here thought it was super special," Barrett said.
