Workers facing outsourcing by Bain meet Romney/Ryan in Waukesha

WAUKESHA --  Workers facing outsourcing by Bain at the Sensata plant in Freeport, IL, traveled to Waukesha Sunday, August 12th to meet the Romney/Paul Ryan Homecoming Rally and urge the former Bain CEO to help save their jobs. Their trip comes as debate over Mitt Romney’s record of outsourcing jobs to China and other countries while at Bain continues to bring national attention to the company’s practices.

The group issued a statement on the event, saying: "Over the past few months, Sensata workers have tried to reach Romney with a signed letter to the campaign and frequent protests outside the plant. In July, the Freeport City Council unanimously passed a resolution calling on Romney to come meet the workers and use his influence at Bain to intervene on their behalf. Romney has yet to respond."

Sensata Technologies was created by Bain Capital in 2006. The company develops, manufactures, and sells sensors and controls for major auto manufacturers such as Ford and General Motors.

Despite rising profits, the company plans to institute the final layoffs in November—just in time for the holidays. The workers are currently training their Chinese replacements, who have been flown to Illinois by the company.

"It's important to get the message out so that even the ones that are backing Romney and Ryan -- they know the message -- that they are shipping jobs overseas, and good jobs. We need to stop this practice right now," Cheryl Randecker from Freeport, Illinois said.

“It’s not just our jobs on the line, but also the future of our community. We hope Romney will join us in this fight, and make it clear that he stands with American workers—not companies like Bain that want to ship our jobs overseas," Dot Turner, who has worked at the plant for 43 years said in a statement.

"They should see there is an opposition here. It's not all a love fest. I really believe in Obama and what he's been doing and want to see it continue. I don't want to see the death of Obama's health plan, for instance," Alan Goldsmith of Kenosha said.

Romney and Ryan addressed a crowd at Waukesha's Expo Center Sunday evening -- just over 24 hours after Romney announced he had selected Ryan as his running mate.
