MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- All lanes on southbound I-43 are now open at Good Hope Road following a traffic accident early on Tuesday, August 12th.
The wreck happened around 6:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-43 midway between Good Hope Rd. and Silver Spring Dr. Because of the serious nature of the crash, officials shut down the freeway for a little less than an hour. Emergency responders apparently had to cut a victim from a car. We do not know the condition of that person.
At one point in the morning, the traffic backup extended more than three miles from the north. Traffic headed in the opposite direction was also slowed from what is often referred to as a "gaper's block."
Shortly after 7 a.m., traffic on southbound I-43 was reopened -- and the congestion began to ease.
