Admirals bitten by the Wolves, 2-1
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A bad two minutes at the start of the second period cost the Admirals two points as they fell to the Chicago Wolves 2-1 Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Vinny Saponari had the lone goal for the Admirals putting his total on the year at four.
The Ads took a 1-0 lead with just over six minutes left in the first period. Brent Regner got called for interference and the Admirals got their second power play opportunity of the game. Saponari gave passed the puck to Anthony Bitetto at the bottom of the right circle. Bitetto attempted to pass the puck to Taylor Beck, but it got tipped in front of the net and fell back to Saponari at the top of the left circle. Saponari got it and wristed one past Jake Allen.
A bad turnover by the Admirals in their defensive zone gave Dmitrij Jaskin an opportunity just 21 seconds into the second period. Jaskin got the puck at the left circle and had no one in front of him except for Magnus Hellberg. Jaskin faked forehand and went backhand to tie the game at 1.
It did not take the Wolves long to take the lead as they scored a short-handed goal just 1:11 into the second period. Keith Aucoin brought the puck up the left lane on a 2-on-1 rush. He decided against giving the puck to his teammate and wristed one top right to put the score at 2-1. This would eventually become the game-winning goal as both teams failed to score the rest of the game.
Hellberg stopped 19 of 21 shots, but still suffered the loss.
The Admirals are back on the ice Sunday evening at 5:00 pm right here at the Bradley Center as they take on the Lake Erie Monsters.
