Admirals blasted by Grand Rapids Griffins, 5-1

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Admirals dug themselves a 5-0 hole to Grand Rapids and only a Kevin Henderson tally in the third period prevented their second straight shutout to the Griffins as Milwaukee fell 5-1 Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Milwaukee has now lost five games in a row overall and their last five at the BMOHBC.

Grand Rapids got on the board first when Andrej Nestrasil beat Ads goalie Marek Mazanec high, stick side on a one-timer from Teemu Pulkkinen just 4:14 into the game.

The Admirals had a chance to pull even later in the period with 1:04 of 5-on-3 power-play time, but the failed to convert and the Griffins had a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Griffins made it 2-0  with 4:36 remaining in the second period when Calle Jarnkrok was sprung on a mini breakaway and he roofed a backhand over Mazenec. Less than two minutes later Tervor Parkes put home the rebound of his own shot to push the Grand Rapids lead to three.

Grand Rapids' Teemu Pulkinen scored twice in nine seconds at the beginning of the third period to give them a 5-0 lead.

Henderson finally got the Ads on the board at the 11:31 mark of the third period. He circled from the right dot towards the high slot a fired a low wrister that beat a screen Peter Mrazek between his left pad and the post. Mark Van Guilder earned the lone assist.

Henderson's goal stopped a scoreless streak of 127:18, which dates back to last Saturday night's game in Rockford.

The Admirals return to action on Friday night when they host Iowa Wild at the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 7 pm. Two-time Vezina Trohpy Finalist Pekka Rinne, who was sent to Milwaukee on a conditioning assignment earlier in the day, is expected to make the start for the Ads.
