Admirals calm the Wild; win 3-1
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Harry Zolnierczyk scored a power play goal midway through the third period to lift the Milwaukee Admirals to a 3-1 win over the Iowa Wild Tuesday, December 6th at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Ads improved to 7-0-0-1 when tied after two periods this season.
Zolnierczyk deflected a pass from Vladislav Kamenev into the net for a power play tally at 10:19 of the third period for his second goal, and second power play goal, of the season. Kamenev and Adam Payerl recorded the assists.
For the second straight game the Admirals opened the scoring in the first minute of the contest. On this night it was Payerl who skated out of the Ads zone on the right wing into the Wild zone. The play turned into a 2-on-1 and the Wild defender took the Ads wing, leaving Payerl open for a hot that went over the glove of Iowa goalie Alex Stalock. The goal was Payerl’s sixth of the season and was assisted by Jimmy Oligny.
Iowa tied the game with :30 remaining in the second period. In transition, Wild forward Sam Anas spied Adam Gilmour streaking to the net and slid a pass off Gilmour’s stick that went high into the net to knot the score at 1-1.
Matt White closed the scoring when he tapped in a loose puck at the left post for his eighth goal of the season with 2:02 remaining in the game. Cody Bass and Oligny recorded the assists.
Ads goalie Juuse Saros stopped 20 of 21 shots to earn his 10th win of the season. Saros saw only three Iowa shots on goal in the third period.
The Admirals travel to play the Grand Rapids Griffins Friday, December 9th. Milwaukee returns home Saturday, December 10th to host the Chicago Wolves at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
