Admirals checked by Charlotte, 5-1
The Charlotte Checkers scored on the team’s first two shots and were able to close out the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday in Charlotte, 5-1.
Matthew Pistilli started the onslaught for Charlotte with a wrist shot that eluded goalie Atte Engren at 2:07 of the first period. Only 76 seconds later, Justin Shugg’s shot from the left circle trickled past Engren to make it 2-0. After just two shots, Engren’s night came to an end.
Pistilli added his second of the period and game at 12:26 when he put a rebound of a Jon Matsumoto shot past goalie Jeremy Smith. Milwaukee was outshot in the first period 17-6. The Admirals did rebound to outshoot Charlotte in the game, 31-29.
Chris Terry made it 4-0 at 8:38 of the second period when he converted a pass from Zac Dalpe. Drayson Bowman’s power play goal at 15:12 of the third period gave the Checkers a 5-0 lead. Milwaukee avoided the shutout when Gabriel Bourque scored his first goal of the season at 19:04 of the third period. Ryan Thang and Chris Mueller notched the assists.
Milwaukee returns home Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 pm against Abbotsford.
