Admirals defeat Lake Erie Monsters 6-3 as 11,000 fans from 99 Milwaukee schools watch
MILWAUKEE -- With over 11,000 fans from 99 Milwaukee area schools the Admirals put on an entertaining and educational show as they defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 6-3 in the team's first ever School Day game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Wednesday morning, November 11th.
After a bit a slow start that saw the Ads need goalie Juuse Saros to stop a pair of breakaways, Milwaukee got things rolling when Pontus Aberg fired a wrister from the left dot that beat Lake Erie netminder Anton Forsberg to the far post at the 6:14 mark of the first.
Goals from Trevor Murphy and Taylor Aronson pushed the Admirals lead to 3-0 after the first period and chased Forsberg from the net.
The change in goaltenders made little difference for Milwaukee to start the second as Max Gortz converted on a power-play just 38 seconds into the middle from to make it 4-0 Milwaukee.
Lake Erie made things interesting as they scored the next two goals and it was 4-2 after two periods.
However, Milwaukee got two more of their own in the third, one from Aberg and a shorty from Max Reinhart with just under seven minutes to go, to guide them to the victory.
Aberg's two goals paced the offense, while Vladislav Kamenev and Adam Payerl each chipped in two assists.
Milwaukee's finished the night 1-for-8 on the power play, marking the eighth time in the past nine games that they have scored with the man-advantage.
Saros stopped 23 shots on the night to earn his third straight win.
Milwaukee heads out on a quick two-game trip to Charlotte to face the Checkers on Friday and Saturday night at 6:30 pm CT before returning home to begin a season-long seven-game homestand on November 18 vs. Chicago.
