Winnipeg, MB — Brendan Lemieux and Mason Appleton each scored two goals to lead the Manitoba Moose to a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Wednesday at BellMTS Place.
The loss ended the Admirals season series at Winnipeg with a 2-2-0-0 mark. The Admirals and Moose will meet for the final time this season in Milwaukee on Wed., Mar. 7.
The game ended with a fracas as Derek Army and Lemieux were involved in an altercation. Eventually, Moose goalie Jamie Phillips came to the Admirals crease to fight with Milwaukee’s netminder Anders Lindback.
The Moose scored a power play goal at 15:34 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Buddy Robinson put a shot to the net that was stopped by Admirals goalie Anders Lindback, but Robinson knocked the rebound into the net for his 22nd goal of the season.
Milwaukee tied the game with a power play goal of its own at 2:00 of the second period. Frederick Gaudreau chased a puck into the Moose right corner and spied a wide-open Mark McNeill between the circles. McNeill slapped a one-timer off the Gaudreau pass into the net for his first goal with the Admirals. Gaudreau and Carrier recorded the helpers.
Manitoba scored a pair in the second period. First, Lemieux scored at 6:17 then Appleton scored at 12:53 to give Manitoba a 3-1 edge.
Lemieux scored his second of the game at 1:59 of the third period when he deflected a Charles-David Beaudoin shot into the net.
Gaudreau scored an unassisted goal at 5:13 of the third period. He wrestled the puck free in Manitoba’s left corner, skated around the net and shot the puck high into the cage for his 14th goal of the year.
Manitoba countered at 6:47 of the third to reclaim the three-goal advantage. Chase DeLeo crashed the net and tapped an Appleton pass into the goal.
Admirals defenseman Fred Allard scored his fourth goal of the season at 8:03 to being the Ads within two. The goal needed video review to be confirmed as Allard flipped the puck over Phillips to the goal line. The replay confirmed the puck went across the goal line.
Appleton scored an empty-net goal with :22 remaining to give the Moose the 6-3 victory.
Milwaukee continues its four game road trip with a game Fri., Feb. 23 at Texas. The Admirals will return home to Panther Arena to host Rockford Fri., Mar. 2.
