Admirals drop 7-1 decision to Lake Erie Monsters
CLEVELAND (WITI) -- David van der Gulik and Bill Thomas each tallied four points to lead the Lake Erie Monsters over the Milwaukee Admirals 7-1 Thursday night, February 21st.
The Monsters outshot Milwaukee 39-23.
Lake Erie took the lead at 15:24 of the first period when Thomas fired a shot from the bottom of the right circle past Jeremy Smith for his 18th goal of the season.
The Monsters grabbed a 2-0 lead at 17:58 of the first period when Harrison Reed fired a wrist shot past Smith for his first goal of the season.
Lake Erie stretched the lead to three when van der Gulik pushed a rebound of a Thomas shot into the net at 1:42 of the second period.
The Admirals finally got on the board at 6:51 of the second period. Juuso Pustinen snapped a Victor Bartley pass into the net for his eighth goal of the season to make it 3-1. Bartley and Cam Reid recorded the assists.
Monsters forward Luke Walker gave his team a three-goal cushion again when he scored his sixth of the season at 7:34 of the second period, finishing another odd-man rush.
Van der Gulik scored his second of the game, and totaled his fourth point of the night, when he scored a power play goal just :59 into the third period to give the Monsters a 5-1 lead.
The Monsters added two more power play goals, one by Thomas Pock at 13:00 and the other by Brad Malone with 4:03 to play in the third period to close the scoring.
The Admirals four-game road trip continues Saturday in Toronto with a 2pm faceoff against the Marlies. Milwaukee returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center Friday, Mar 1 against Grand Rapids.
