MILWAUKEE -- Pontus Aberg scored the game-tying goal in regulation and then posted the game-winner in the shoot-out as the Admirals took a 3-2 shoot-out win over Chicago on Friday night in their first victory at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The two teams went into overtime knotted at two and after an exciting but scoreless five minutes, Freddy Gaudreau led the shoot-out off with a goal for Milwaukee. However, Magnus Paajarvi answered for the Wolves. After two misses, Aberg put an impressive move on Chicago goalie Phoenix Copley before Juuse Saros stuffed Brett Sterling to secure the win for Milwauakee.
Saros improved his lifetime record in shoot-outs to 5-0 and moved to 5-1 in the 2016-17 campaign.
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Landon Ferarro grabbed the rebound of a Samual Blais shot for a PPG at the 8:11 mark.
A turnover in the Admirals zone led to a 2-0 Chicago lead as Justin Selman found the loose puck and buried it past Milwaukee netminder Juuse Saros.
Max Gortz got the Admirals on the board with his first goal of the season with a power-play goal at the 11:19 mark of the second period. Trevor Murphy and Matt White chipped in assists on the play.
Milwaukee struck again on the power-play later in the period to tie things up at two. Aberg fired a seeing-eye wrister from the right circle that clanged off the elbow of the goal and into the net. It was his third of the year and second on the power-play.
The Admirals get right back at it on Saturday night when they play host the Iowa Wild at 6 pm at the Panther Arena.
