Admirals earn sixth win in seven games with victory over Rampage
MILWUAKEE (WITI) -- Mark Van Guilder's goal with just over five minutes to play in the game broke a 2-2 tie and led the Admirals to a 4-2 win over San Antonio Rampage on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Van Guilder's tally started when Tony Bitetto fired a shot that was stopped by San Antonio netminder Scott Clemmensen, but the puck trickled just to his left, where Van Guilder lay in wait to pounce on it for his 12th of the season.
Scott Darling earned the win in net for Milwaukee, stopping 25 of 27 shots in his first start since February 29th.
The Ads got on the board first when Calle Jarnkrok picked up his fifth goal in as many games with Milwaukee 10:24 into the first.
After The Admirals successfully killed off a pair of Rampage power-plays, they finally got one of their own when Wade Megan was called for whistled for hooking. With the Ads crowding the San Antonio net Patrick Cehlin put a shot on goal that was stopped by Clemmensen. Jarnkrok got the rebound behind the goal line and deftly ricocheted the puck off Clemmensen's calf and into the net.
San Antonio evened the score just over three minutes later when John McFarland came down the left wing, swooped behind the Ads defense and tucked the puck between Darling's left pad and the right post.
The Admirals regained the lead with just 2:36 remaining in the second period on Austin Watson's 15th goal of the year. With an Ads power-play just ending, Bitetto sent a shot from the left point that Watson deflected five-hole past Clemmensen.
However, San Antonio once again tied the score, this time via a penalty shot after Ryan Martindale was hooked from behind on a breakaway 5:38 into the third.
Miikka Salomaki finished the scoring with an empty netter with 14 seconds to play, sealing the Ads sixth win in their past seven games.
The Admirals now head off on a four-game road trip and don't have another home game until they host the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday, March 28th at 7 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Admirals are back in action on Saturday, March 15 to take on the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
