Admirals edged by Stars in OT, 2-1
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Admirals earned a point in the standings for the fifth consecutive game with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Texas Stars on Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
However, it appeared for much of the game that the Ads would come away with two points for a win on the night as they led the Stars 1-0 until late in the third. With just 6:25 remaining in the contest Texas was on the power-play when Matt Fraser took a shot that deflected off the chest of Ads goalie Jeremy Smith and bounced over the sticks of two Admirals before Cody Eakin jumped on it and beat Smith to level the game at one.
The Stars won it at the 1:56 mark of the OT period as Colton Sceviour grabbed the rebound of a Tomas Vincour shot and beat Smith.
A scoreless first period saw Texas outshoot the Ads 7-5, however the Admirals took the game’s first lead early in the second on Austin Watson’s eighth of the season at the 2:17 mark.
Watson started the play with a shot from the right wall that Texas goalie Cristopher Nilstorp gloved, but the puck went to Daniel Bang on Nilstorp’s right side. Bang chipped the puck back across the slot to a crashing Watson, who beat the Stars’ goalie before he could recover.
The goal for Watson was his seventh marker in his past ten games and puts him atop the roster with 15 points (8g-7a).
The Admirals now hit the road for a three-game road trip that kicks off on Friday night in Rockford. Milwaukee’s next home game is Friday, December 14 at 7 pm against the IceHogs.
