Admirals even up series with victory over Stars, 2-0
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Admirals evened their best-of-five first round series at one with their 2-0 victory over the Texas Stars at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Saturday night. Magnus Hellberg made 23 saves for his first shutout of the AHL playoffs and his seventh total of the season.
The first period could only have been better if the Admirals had been able to capitalize on one of their many chances. The puck spent most of the time in the Stars’ end as the Admirals controlled play for much of the period. The Ads went into the locker room with a 12-2 lead in shots and a heavy advantage in momentum.
The Admirals finally broke through Stars netminder Chris Nilstorp when Austin Watson picked up the rebound of a shot by Mike Liambas and put it over a sprawling Nilstorp. That would put the Admirals up 1-0 with 7:56 to play in the second period and be all the offense the team needed.
Hellberg took control of the game in the third period stopping all 11 shots thrown his way and earning his third shutout in his fourth . Mike Moore added the insurance goal with an empty netter from the Admirals end with 28 seconds to go.
The Admirals will travel to Austin, TX to play the final 3 games of the series with Texas. Game 3 will be Wednesday, May 1st at 7:30 pm.
