Admirals extend winning streak to 8 with 2-1 victory over IceHogs
MILWAUKEE -- Frederick Gaudreau scored the Admirals lone goal in regulation and added another in the shoot-out as Milwaukee won their eighth consecutive game with a 2-1 shoot-out win over the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Marek Mazanec finished the night with 28 saves and stopped both Rockford attempts in the shoot-out to earn the victory in his first game action in almost two weeks.
After two scoreless periods, Gaudreau picked up his second goal in as many games just 5:04 in the third. The play started when Max Gortz sent a pass from the half-wall down to Viktor Arvidsson on the bottom of the left circle. Arvidsson's shot was turned aside by Hogs goalie Mark Visentin, but Gaudreau was on the doorstep to chip in the rebound and give the Ads the 1-0 lead.
The assist on the play for Arvidsson was his 11th straight game with a point, the longest streak in the AHL this season.
However, the IceHogs tied the game up with just over three minutes left in the game on Ryan Hartman's fifth goal of the season. Hartman swooped around the Milwaukee net and jammed it past Mazanec.
After a scoreless overtime period, the Admirals picked up goals from Kevin Fiala and Gaudreau in the shoot-out, while Mazanec stopped Rockford's Eric Gustafsson and Garret Ross to secure the win.
The Admirals will look to tie their franchise record with their ninth straight win on Saturday night when they host the San Diego Gulls at 7 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
