CHARLOTTE --Two goals in a span of 2:02 moved the Charlotte Checkers past the Milwaukee Admirals 3-1 Tuesday night, December 11th.
The loss was the first suffered by goalie Magnus Hellberg. He was a perfect 4-0-0 coming into the contest.
The Admirals scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 8:08 of the first period. Gabriel Bourque passed the puck to Victor Bartley at the blue line. Bartley’s shot was stopped by goalie Justin Peters, but Chris Mueller buried the rebound for his 10th goal of the season, second on the power play. The goal snapped a 0-15 stretch on the power play for Milwaukee, dating back to Nov. 25 at Grand Rapids.
The Checkers tied the game at 9:07 of the second period when Zac Dalpe converted an odd-man rush with a shot from the right circle. Charlotte forward Drayson Bowman was able to thread a pass underneath the stick of a Milwaukee defender to Dalpe for the tally.
Charlotte took the lead at 11:09 of the second period when Tim Wallace crashed to the left post and fired the puck past Hellberg.
Checkers defenseman Justin Faulk scored his fourth goal of the season at 11:45 of the third period when he wristed a shot into the net to ice the game.
Milwaukee was outshot in the second period 11-2. The two shots represent a Milwaukee season low for a period.
The Admirals return home Friday, December 14 at 7 pm against the Rockford IceHogs.
