Admirals fall to Charlotte 3-2 in shootout
CHARLOTTE (WITI) -- Goalie Drew MacIntyre stopped 39 shots and all three chances in a shootout to lead the Charlotte Checkers to a 3-2 shootout win over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday afternoon, November 30th.
MacIntyre faced 16 shots from the Admirals in the first period. That number tied for the most in a period for the Admirals this season.
Charlotte’s Justin Shugg scored the only goal for either team in the shootout.
The Admirals scored the first goal of the game at 18:50 of the first period. Defenseman Anthony Bitetto made a long pass from the defensive zone to Mark Van Guilder at the Charlotte blue line. Van Guilder was joined in his rush to the net by Triston Grant. Grant received a pass and fired a shot high over the left shoulder of his former Admirals teammate MacIntyre into the net for his first goal of the season.
Charlotte tied the game at 5:17 of the second period when Brock McGinn’s shot from the slot found its way through traffic and over the left shoulder of Marek Mazanec.
The Admirals reclaimed the lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 18:10 of the second period. Miikka Salomaki was camped right above the crease. he received a pass from the right post off the stick of Brendan Leipsic. Salomaki then moved the puck to the left post where Colton Sissons slammed the puck into the net for his sixth goal of the season. It was his second of the year on the power play.
The Checkers tied the score at two at 10:39 of the third period. Beau Schmitz’ shot from the right point was deflected into the air and then swatted out of mid-air into the net by Checkers forward A.J. Jenks for his second goal of the season.
Milwaukee’s next home game is against Rockford Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m.
