Admirals fall to IceHogs 2-1
ROCKFORD -- Brandon Pirri’s two power play goals led the Rockford IceHogs to a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday in Rockford.
Milwaukee struck first when the newest Admiral, Aaron Marvin, deflected a Jon Blum shot over the left shoulder of IceHogs netminder Carter Hutton at 5:49 of the first. Blum and Teemu Laakso recorded the assist. Marvin, who participated in Milwaukee’s training camp, joined the team from ECHL Chicago on a PTO prior to the game.
Rockford tied the game at 12:48 of the first period when Brandon Pirri’s one-timer from the right faceoff dot sailed over goalie Jeremy Smith’s left shoulder while Rockford was on the power play. Assists went to Brian Connelly and Rostislav Olesz.
Pirri scored a near-carbon copy goal at 8:17 of the second period to give the IceHogs a 2-1 lead. On another power play, defenseman Connelly passed to the left circle for Olesz. His pass to the right circle was buried by Pirri.
Milwaukee’s string of consecutive games with at least one power play goal was snapped at eight games after the team finished 0-3.
Milwaukee will travel to Peoria to face the Rivermen at 10 am Tuesday, Jan. 24. The Admirals next home game is Friday, Jan. 27.
