ROCKFORD, IL -- Rockford’s Brandon Bollig tied the game with 3:47 to play in regulation and three IceHogs shooters scored in the shootout to spoil another solid game for Milwaukee goalie Atte Engren. Rockford defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 2-1 in a shootout.
The Admirals gained a point in the standings. With 58 points, Milwaukee is three points behind Peoria for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Engren stopped 35 shots, 15 in the first period. However, he stopped just one of four in the shootout. Rockford goalie Carter Hutton stopped all three Milwaukee shooters.
The Admirals took a 1-0 lead at 15:59 of the first period when Jani Lajunen intercepted a pass from Rockford’s left corner by defenseman Joe Lavin. Lajunen took the puck from the top of the right circle, made two strides and fired a wrist shot into the net off the glove of IceHogs netminder Hutton for his fourth goal of the season. Lajunen has points in four straight games for the Admirals (3-1-4).
Bollig tied the game with a sharp-angle goal in the third period. IceHogs defenseman Brian Fahey put the initial shot on net from the right corner. The rebound came to Bollig who, from the goal line left of Engren, found a spot to put the puck into the cage.
The Milwaukee Admirals return to the Bradley Center Sunday, Feb. 26 to host San Antonio at 3 pm.
