Admirals fall to Marlies in OT, 3-2
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Despite a 41-26 advantage in shots the Admirals dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Toronto Marlies Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Admirals, but they still earned a vital point in the standings with the OT defeat.
Just 1:23 into the game, Brad Winchester of the Ads scored his seventh goal of the season after he jammed in a rebound from Craig Smith’s slapper at the point.
With 14:56 remaining in the first, Jamie Devane of Toronto drove the puck into the Admiral’s corner and put a blind pass to Sam Carrick who slammed a one timer from the slot over Milwaukee’s netminder Magnus Hellberg’s glove side.
The second period started with the teams tied at one, but with the Admirals on the power play, Anthony Bitetto faked out defender Mike Zigomanis and slammed a shot into the back of the net from the point. This was Bitetto’s first goal as an Admiral.
With just under three minutes remaining in the second, the netminder for Toronto, Jussi Rynnas left the game due to injury and former Admiral Drew MacIntyre took over between the pipes for the Marlies.
The Marlies fought to bring the game to a tie again. At 3:28 in the third period, Will Ashton of Toronto skated into the Admirals zone and passed the puck to Jerry D’Amigo who lit the lamp from the top of the left circle.
The Marlies and Admirals ended regulation time tied at two. The teams proceeded into 4 on 4 overtime. With 2:45 remaining in OT, Greg McKegg drew a boarding penalty allowing the Ads to have a 4 on 3 advantage. Unfortunately, Milwaukee couldn’t put the puck in the net and with just 40 seconds to go in OT Greg Scott of Toronto skated across the Ads zone and threw a wrist shot over Hellberg's shoulder.
Milwaukee finishes off the weekend by traveling to Chicago on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Ads next home game is Wednesday, March 27 at 7:00 pm against the Lake Erie Monsters at the BMO Harris Bradley Center
