Admirals roast IceHogs in overtime, 3-2

ROCKFORD -- Rookie defenseman Trevor Murphy scored his first professional goal and goalie Marek Mazanec stopped 35 shots to lead the Admirals to a 3-2 overtime win over the Rockford IceHogs Saturday night.

Milwaukee extended its winning streak to three games and its points streak to four games with the victory.

Rockford was penalized for too many men on the ice with 1:01 to go in overtime which put the Admirals on the power play. With 24.1 seconds left to play, Murphy blasted a one-timer from the right circle past IceHogs netminder Mark Visentin for the game-winner. Taylor Aronson and Viktor Arvidsson recorded the assists.

Mazanec earned his second win of the season with 35 saves, 14 in the first period.

Rockford got on the board first when Brandon Mashinter was able to tap a loose puck past Admirals goalie Mazanec at 7:54 of the first period. IceHogs defenseman Ville Pokka was able to keep the puck alive as he knocked the puck under a defenders stick to Mashinter on the left post.

The Admirals ties the game at 13:45 of the first period. Felix Girard, Stevie Moses and Jamie Devane came into the Rockford zone on an odd-man rush. Moses slid the pass from the slot to Devane whose shot from the left circle found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Milwaukee took the lead with a power play goal at 10:45 of the second period. Pontus Aberg carried the puck on the left wing into the Rockford zone. He dipped his shoulder and went to the net, drawing the defenders. Aberg slid a backhanded pass into the slot for Adam Payerl to deposit high into the net for his second goal of the season. Aberg and Murphy recorded the helpers.

Rockford knotted the score at two when Pokka’s wristshot from the right circle squeaked into the net for his first goal of the season at 8:50 of the third period.

Milwaukee finished the game 2/7 on the power play.
