Admirals score 6 times in final 23 minutes to beat Checkers, 6-2
MILWAUKEE -- After being stymied by the Charlotte Checkers and goalie John Muse for the better part of five periods over the course of two games, the Admirals busted out for six goals over the final 23 minutes tonight in a 6-2 win at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Max Gortz and Matt White each tallied two goals on the night and White also added an assist for his second three-point night of his career. Patrick Mullen added a pair of helpers in the victory for his first multi-point contest as an Admiral.
The win, coupled with an OT loss by Rockford, puts the Admirals in second place in the Central Division with less than a month to play in the regular season.
Juuse Saros didn't have a lot of action tonight as he stopped 13 of the 15 shots he saw, but he made a number of timely saves to pick up his 22nd win of the season.
While the Admirals carried the pace of play in the first period, outshooting the Checkers 12-4, it was Charlotte that got the first goal of the contest just 58 seconds into the second period on Derek Ryan's 19th tally of the year.
Kevin Fiala opened the flood gates for Milwaukee when he bounced a tough angle shot off of Muse's back and into the net to level the score at one.
Less than three minutes later Max Gortz went top-right over Muse's shoulder for a power-play goal and a leads the Admirals wouldn't relinquish.
Milwaukee scored four times in the final period, getting goals from Eric Nystrom, two from White and another from Gortz to cruise to the win.
The Admirals will finish up their final 3-in-3 of the season on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm at the Allstate Arena in Amtrak Rivalry action against the Wolves.
