Admirals shut out the Lake Erie Monsters, 4-0
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Goalie Marek Mazanec stopped 29 shots and Brendan Leipsic recorded his first two-goal game to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 4-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Tuesday night.
The win snapped a seven-game winless skid for the Admirals (0-5-0-2) dating back to November 26. It also snapped a four-game losing streak in Cleveland for the Admirals. It was Milwaukee’s first win in Cleveland since March 16, 2012.
Mazanec recorded his second shutout of the season to improve his record to 7-7-1 on the season.
Leipsic snapped a 0-24 stretch on the power play for the Admirals when he scored his second goal of the game at 6:37 of the third period. The Admirals forward skated from the right wing boards into the slot, eluded a defender and sent a wristshot over the left glove of Lake Erie goalie Roman Will. It was Leipsic’s third goal of the season and assists went to Taylor Aronson and Pontus Aberg.
Viktor Arvidsson gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead at 17:00 of the first period. Defenseman Jimmy Oligny sent the puck into the left corner of the Monsters zone. Arvidsson chased the loose puck down and crashed to the net, where he slid the puck under the left leg of Will. It was Arvidsson’s seventh goal of the season and Oligny recorded the assist, his first professional point.
Milwaukee claimed a 2-0 lead when Leipsic slapped a shot from the left circle over the catching glove of Will at 1:48 of the second period. It was Leipsic’s second goal of the season. Colton Sissons recorded the lone assist, his first assist of the season.
The Admirals and Monsters play in Cleveland again Thursday night. Milwaukee’s next home game is against Chicago Friday, December 26 at 7 pm.
