Admirals struggle to overcome early first period deficit against OKC Barons, fall 5-1
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Ads got off to a slow start Sunday afternoon, March 8th at the BMO Harris Bradley Center and struggled to overcome an early first period deficit against the Oklahoma City Barons before eventually falling 5-1.
The Barons got on the board first when the Admirals turned the puck over in their zone and Jason Williams was able to tap in a deflected shot on goal by Dillon Simpson at 3:46 in the first period giving Oklahoma City an early 1-0 lead.
The Barons extended their lead with 4:27 remaining in the first period when Andrew Miller made a pass from the near circle to Bogdan Yakimov who slapped in his 10th goal of the season past Marek Mazanec.
The Barons scored once again when C.J. Ludwig fired a shot from the right corner that Mazanec was unable to control and bounced off his skate which allowed C.J. Stretch to chip in his eighth goal of the season to extend Oklahoma City's lead to 3-0 at 4:46 in the second period.
The Admirals cut into the Barons advantage when Viktor Arvidsson received a fantastic pass from Johan Alm in the middle of the zone. Arvidsson lined a shot from the right circle past Laurent Brossoit for his 18th goal of the year at 2:07 in the third period.
Any momentum that the Ads picked up from that goal was diffused 45 seconds later the Barons Joshua Winquist backhanded a shot that snuck by Mazanec and made it 4-1
Kellen Jones finished the scored with a PPG for OKC at 6:13 of the third period.
The Admirals will go on the road for a six game road trip beginning Tuesday night in Oklahoma City before returning home to host the Texas Stars on Saturday March 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
