Admirals take overtime win against Monsters, 2-1

CLEVELAND -- Goalie Juuse Saros stopped 30 shots and Felix Girard scored the winning goal as the Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Cleveland Monsters 2-1 in overtime Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.

The win extends Milwaukee’s points streak to eight games (7-0-1-0). Milwaukee’s last regulation time loss was Oct. 29 to Iowa.

Girard was in front of the Monsters net as Vladislav Kamenev slid the puck toward the goal from the left corner. The puck bounced off goalie Joonas Korpisalo and Girard was there to backhand the puck into the net for his second goal of the season at 2:16 of overtime.

Milwaukee struck first at 10:32 of the second period. Kevin Fiala fired a wrist shot from the slot past the glove of Monsters goalie Korpisalo for his second goal of the season. Trevor Smith and Alex Carrier recorded the assists.

The Monsters tied the game at 16:15 of the second period. Jordan Maletta passed the puck to the front of the goal. It deflected off an Admirals defender and was tapped in from the left post by Nick Moutrey for his third goal of the year.

The game was delayed nearly 30 minutes during the first period due to a loose set of boards near the Zamboni door.

Milwaukee returns home Wed., Nov. 23 to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
