Admirals tame Wolves, 6-0

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Admirals goalie, Jeremy Smith recorded his third shutout of the season and his fifth consecutive victory as the Admirals defeated the Chicago Wolves, 6-0 Saturday night at the Bradley Center. Smith turned away all 27 shots that came his way.

With plenty of scoring chances for the Admirals, Milwaukee took advantage as Zack Stortini scored his ninth goal of the season at the 9:34 mark. Stortini took a cross ice pass from Mark Van Guilder and beat Matt Climie stick side putting the Ads ahead 1-0.

With 3:29 left in the first the Ads extended their lead to 2-0 as they had a two-man advantage. Milwaukee kept the puck in the offensive zone the whole time and Victor Bartley’s one timer from Juuso Puustinen beat Climie. The Admirals held that 2-0 lead after one period of play.

Milwaukee and Chicago both had scoring chances early in the second period. The Ads had the first chance as Taylor Beck passed to Ben Ryan on the right post, but Ryan could not control the bouncing puck.

Less than a minute later, Scott Ford fell down at the blue line, where Anton Rodin took the puck and started a breakaway from the Wolves. However, Rodin missed the shot wide.

At the 18:19 mark of the second period, Bartley fired a shot on Climie from the blue line. It looked like Climie had the save made but Ryan poked the puck away from Climie for his third goal of the season, extending the Ads lead to 3-0, which is the way the second period would end.

Milwaukee’s Kevin Henderson scored his first goal as an Admiral in the third period as he worked a give and go with Puustinen. Puustinen fed Henderson the puck and put it past an out of position Climie giving the Ads a 4-0 lead.

With the Admirals on the power play, Ben Ryan handled the puck in the far faceoff circle and found Chris Mueller on the side of the net. Mueller shot the puck that beat Climie stick side extending the Ads lead to 5-0 with 12:15 left in the third.

Henderson made it 6-0 on a shorthanded play after he scored his second goal of the game at the 14:15 mark of the third. Jon Blum cleared the puck off the boards that Henderson corralled it and swooped in and beat Climie.

The Admirals were paced on the offensive end by five players, Jon Blum (2a), Kevin Henderson (2g), Ben Ryan (1a-1g), Victor Bartley (1a-1g) and Juuso Puustinen (2a) with two points each.

The Admirals return to the ice on Wednesday, March 7 when they travel to the All-State Arena to take on the Wolves. Milwaukee’s next home game is on Saturday, March 10th at 7:00 pm against the Rockford IceHogs. Fans can order tickets
