Admirals top Rochester Americans 2-1 in OT
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Defenseman Charles Olivier-Roussel led the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-1 overtime win against the Rochester Americans Sunday afternoon, March 2nd at the BMO Harris Bradley Center as he scored both the team's goals, including the game-winner in OT.
Pekka Rinne earned his second win in as many starts for Milwaukee, stopping 17 of 18 shots in his final rehab stint with the team. The win was his 83rd as an Admiral, putting him just one shy of the team's AHL record.
Milwaukee and Rochester haven't met since 2007 but matched up well throughout the game, going just over 50 minutes of play before Roussel put the Admirals on the board halfway through the third.
The first period opened with a series of penalties for both Milwaukee and Rochester, giving each team a number of opportunities to score on the power-play. However, neither team were able to come away with a goal and it was 0-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Consistent play by both the Ads and Americans kept the game scoreless until midway through the third period at 10:13 when Roussel banked one in off of the back of the leg of Rochester goalie Nathan Lieuwen from the near corner. Bryan Rodney fed the play by passing from the Admirals blue line up to Roussel for the goal that put the Admirals up 1-0.
Just seven seconds later, at 10:20, Rochester answered Roussel's goal with one of their own by Jamie Tardiff, was he got behind the Admirals defense on the ensuing face-off.
Scoring his third of the season and second of the night, Roussel took a feed from Austin Watson and put a backhand five-hole past Lieuwen 1:28 into overtime, winning it for the Ads 2-1.
The Admirals take on the Rockford Icehogs this Friday night, March 7 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
