Admirals tripped up by Griffins 4-2

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Defenseman Nathan Paetsch scored a pair of goals to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Friday in Grand Rapids, MI.

Paetsch scored both of his goals early in the second period. The first came at 3:49, the second at 5:56.

The game was delayed at the 13:41 mark of the second period. Griffins forward Alden Hirschfeld suffered a medical incident on the team’s bench. He was tended to by medical personnel and transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation. He left in stable condition.

Grand Rapids scored the first goal of the game when Grifins forward Jeff Hoggan intercepted a Max Gortz pass at the Admirals blue line. Hoggan fed the puck to Tomas Nosek who scored his third goal of the season at 2:33 of the first period.

The Griffins scored on the power play at 12:48 of the first period to grab a 2-0 advantage. Martin Frk fired a slapshot from between the Admirals circles into the cage for his 11th goal of the season.

The Admirals cut the deficit in half when Gortz used his strength to gain the offensive zone. Gortz was tied up by a defender as he crossed the Griffins blue line. He tapped the puck free to Pontus Aberg who moved to the slot and fired a low shot that beat Griffins goalie Jared Coreau to his stick side. The goal, Aberg’s ninth of the season, was assisted by Gortz and Kevin Fiala.

Milwaukee’s Cody Bass scored his first goal as an Admiral at 16:12 of the third period to close the scoring. Garrett Noonan recorded the lone assist.

Milwaukee returns home Sat., Jan. 9 to host the Iowa Wild at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
