Ads top Monsters 4-1 in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, OH -- Trevor Murphy scored two goals and Marek Mazanec stopped 28 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Monsters Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Murphy recorded his second two goal effort in his last three games. All four of his goals have been scored in those contests.
The Ads got on the board less than a minute into the game. With the help of a Harry Zolnierczyk screen, Murphy’s shot from the left faceoff dot bounced off goalie Anton Forsberg and into the net for his third goal of the season at :41. Jack Dougherty and Vladislav Kamenev recorded the assists.
Cleveland tied the game with a 4-on-4 goal by rookie defenseman Blake Siebenaler at 15:26 of the first period. Siebenaler jumped into the rush on the left wing and lifted a backhander over the glove of Ads netminder Marek Mazanec.
Murphy scored his second of the game with a power play goal at 17:42 of the first period to reclaim the lead for Milwaukee. Zolnierczyk skated behind the Monsters goal and sent a pass for Murphy to blast from the left circle. The goal, Murphy’s fourth of the season, was assisted by Zolnierczyk and Kamenev.
Kamenev scored his sixth goal of the season at :54 of the third period to stretch the Ads lead to 3-1. He shot a backhander into the net after a pass from Adam Payerl. Zolnierczyk also picked up an assist on the tally.
The Admirals stretched the lead to 4-1 when Justin Florek converted a Derek Army pass from behind the Cleveland net at 11:31 of the third period. The goal was Florek’s second of the season. Army and Blake Kessel, both playing their first game with the Admirals, recorded the assists.
Mazanec saw 25 shots in the first two periods but only four made it on goal in the final stanza. Mazanec improved his record to 3-1-1 on the season.
The Admirals travel to play the Iowa Wild Tues., Dec. 6. Milwaukee returns home Sat., Dec. 10 to host the Chicago Wolves at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
