Akeem Springs on fire! UW-Milwaukee brings home 81-65 win over Youngstown State
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Akeem Springs made 14 of 18 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and finished with a career-high 33 points to help Milwaukee beat Youngstown State 81-65 Thursday night.
Austin Arians scored 14 and JayQuan McCloud added 13 points for Milwaukee (11-5, 2-1 Horizon League). Matt Tiby had 11 rebounds and a career-high nine assists. Jordan Johnson, who came in ranked second nationally in assists per game (7.9), had 10.
Youngstown State (6-10, 1-2) took a 5-0 lead but Springs and Arians hit back-to-back 3-pointers and the Panthers took the lead for good just more than two minutes in.
Springs scored nine in a row and Arians hit a 3 to cap a 12-0 run that pushed the lead to 31-16 with six minutes left in the first half.
The Penguins trailed by double figures the rest of the way.
Cameron Morse scored 18 and Francisco Santiago added 17 for Youngstown State.
