Another hurdle cleared: City leaders unanimously okay designs for new Bucks arena
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved the detailed designs for the new Milwaukee Bucks arena on Tuesday morning, May 24th. The vote by council members was 15-0.
The council approved updated plans for three parcels of land for the arena district, including the arena itself, a new parking structure and the team's practice facility.
Tuesday's vote clears the way for the Bucks to break ground on the new facility -- which is set for June 18th. If all goes as planned, the new arena will open in summer 2018.
Bucks President Peter Feigin released the following statement on the council's vote:
"Today’s vote represents another significant milestone in this historic public/private partnership to transform downtown Milwaukee. Now that we’ve cleared this final hurdle, we can truly get to work on creating jobs, driving economic growth, and building a world-class sports and entertainment district that will be a lasting symbol for the region. We look forward to welcoming fans from around the state on June 18 as we officially break ground on the arena and celebrate our collective efforts to build a better Milwaukee."
