PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst is moving closer to taking the head coaching job at Wisconsin.
A person with direct knowledge of situation told The Associated Press that Chryst is traveling to Madison, Wisconsin to meet with university officials about replacing Gary Andersen. Andersen left the Badgers for Oregon State last week. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting had not yet been announced.
Chryst, a former player and offensive coordinator for the Badgers, is 19-19 in three seasons with the Panthers. He interviewed with Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez about the vacancy last week. Alvarez also interviewed with former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano. Wisconsin state hiring laws prevent the Badgers from making a hire before Wednesday.
Chryst attended practice with the Panthers on Tuesday before heading to Wisconsin.
