Badgers moms who couldn't make it out to Outback Bowl gather at Wauwatosa pub for watch party
WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Badgers were triumphant in an epic battle with the Auburn Tigers at the Outback Bowl on Thursday, January 1st. The Badgers outlasted the Tigers in overtime, 34-31. Not all Badgers fans made their way to Florida for the big game. Some were at Walter's on North in Wauwatosa, where a watch party was held.
The New Year's Day game was a minor upset over last year's national runner-up, but those watching the game at Walter's on North say the victory was ours all along.
Connor Senger of Milwaukee is a red shirt freshman for the Wisconsin Badgers. While he didn't see any playing time in the bowl game on Thursday, January 1st, his mom says she's definitely proud.
"Oh absolutely, absolutely. He is living his dream right now. He's absolutely living his dream," Connor's mom Deb said.
A recent surgery kept Deb and her partner Kathy away from the bowl game.
"But our friends took our tickets so they got our jerseys and they're in the stands," Deb said.
They came to Walter's on North for a watch party organized by Michele Miller -- mother of number 39 Brady Kelliher, a red shirt freshman defensive end from Sussex.
"This is my lucky ring. I wore it when we beat Nebraska so we're going to win today," Miller said.
The game was a nail biter! You could see the excitement in these parents' eyes as they hoped for a Badgers victory.
This is the kind of crowd that keeps bar owner Butch Greich open.
"We usually pack them in for Badgers games and Packer games," Greich said.
This was the second year in a row the Badgers moms who couldn't get out to the bowl game hosted a party at Walter's on North. They say next year the party is cancelled, and not because they don't think the Badgers will make it to the bowl game, but because they say they're going to be in the stands!
