Badgers running back Corey Clement out 4-6 weeks for surgery to repair sports hernia

MADISON -- Wisconsin Badgers officials say running back Corey Clement will miss approximately four to six weeks because he's set to have surgery to repair a sports hernia.

The announcement was made by Badgers Head Coach Paul Chryst on Thursday, September 24th.

Clement has missed the Badgers' last two games after playing sparingly against Alabama in the season opener.

"Corey has been dealing with some issues since before the Alabama game," Chryst said in a statement posted on the Badgers Twitter page. "He has been undergoing treatment since that time and has seen some progress but not to the point where our medical staff is satisfied. So after consultation with our medical staff, Corey has decided to have surgery for a sports hernia.

"I feel back for Corey that this is impacting his season because I know how hard he works and how important this football team is to him. We are very confident that he will make a full recovery after the surgery and I know he will attack his rehab so he can get back on the field as soon as he can," Chryst said in the statement.

Clement is a junior running back for the Badgers.

According to UWBadgers.com, Clement has played in 26 games over first two seasons, rushing for 1,496 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 7.0 yards per carry.
