Brett Favre ventures to Green Bay, attends "Chalk Talk" luncheon with Steve Young
GREEN BAY (WITI) -- Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre ventured to Green Bay on Monday, December 8th -- and attended a luncheon in Titletown.
"It's exciting to be back. It's a great cause, and that's why we're here," Favre said Monday.
Favre was present for a "Chalk Talk" luncheon featuring NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young -- and benefiting Rawhide Boys Ranch -- an organization co-founded by Bart Starr.
The presentation featured Young, the current ESPN analyst, paying tribute to Bart Starr for his role as co-founder of Rawhide and career as a Hall of Fame Packers quarterback.
Bart Starr, who's still recovering from a stroke was represented by his son, Bart Starr Jr., who discussed what his father has done with Rawhide over the years.
The event was held at the Brett Favre Steakhouse in Green Bay.
"It's great to have (Brett Favre) come back to Green Bay. It's just a matter of time, but it's neat to see that start to happen. Just being here for that is fun for me because just think about the time we spent battling at each other and now we can laugh at it and have some good times," Young said.
"Bart Starr and all the other great players, it'd be great to have him come back on a regular basis," Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said.
Favre seemed genuinely happy to be back, and talked about the moment he realized football was part of his past.
"I was kind of, like you said, numb. I didn't think I needed to be there. It was one of those things that...it really struck the next day. Monday morning, got up and my first thought was 'I feel pretty good.' I mean, that was really the first time that I really realized that not playing, how good you feel. Believe me, I don't know what normal is like. But compared to the previous year, the day after a game, the walk to the bathroom was like on egg shells. I felt much better. A lot better," Favre said.
To a standing ovation, Favre and his wife, Deanna's foundation donated $20,000 to the Rawhide Boys Ranch -- something Rawhide officials say happens every year.
Favre departed Green Bay following the event.
