Cardinals tie series, beat Red Sox in Boston
MILWAUKEE (WITI)-- The St. Louis Cardinals rebounded nicely after falling 8-1 to the Boston Red Sox in game 1 of the World Series. On Thursday night they tied the series (1-1) by beating Boston, 4-2 at Fenway Park.
St. Louis jumped ahead first by a Yadier Molina fielder's choice RBI in the top of the 4th. But Boston's Big Papi, David Ortiz, would shift the score by adding his 17th homer of the post season, a 2-run shot in the bottom of the 6th.
The Cardinals would seal the deal in the top of the 7th when Matt Carpenter's sac fly scored 2 because of a throwing and catching error by the Red Sox Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Craig Breslow. The Cards also added an RBI single in the 7th, making it 4-2, thus wining the game by that score.
St. Louis 22-year-old Rookie, Michael Wacha, gets the win going 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and just 2 runs.
Boston's John Lackey picks up the loss over 6.1 innings pitched with 5 hits and 3 runs.
Game 3 is Saturday the 26th at 7:07 (CT) on FOX.
