Duane Wilson scored 17 points as MU held off St. John's rally to win 78-73

NEW YORK — Duane Wilson scored 17 points and Marquette held off a furious St. John's rally to win 78-73 on Sunday, January 24th and hand the Red Storm their 10th straight loss.

Henry Ellenson added 16 points and 18 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (13-7, 3-5 Big East).

Behind Wilson and Ellenson, Marquette built a 46-26 advantage early in the second half by using a 24-4 run spanning halftime before St. John's started to press and turn the tide.

The Red Storm (7-13, 0-7), who are in the midst of a school record skid under first-year coach Chris Mullin, cut their deficit to 61-59 on Frederico Mussini's 3-pointer with 5:59 left.

After Marquette got the lead back up to seven with 1:44 left, Duran Johnson hit consecutive 3-pointers to get the Red Storm within 76-73 with 41.5 seconds left. After a miss by Ellenson, Mussini's contested 3-pointer was short with a second left and Ellenson hit two free throws to seal the victory.
