FOX POINT, Wis. - Being part of a group can be very beneficial for people.
A fun taekwondo class
What we know:
Being in the JK Lee Blackbelt Academy in Fox Point is something special and serious for Ethan Kretlow.
Local perspective:
"It’s a challenge. You can do one with your knees, and you can do a kibo and say ‘AYE-YAH’ and that makes people happy," Ethan said.

It’s obvious with all the smiles and laughter that this is a happy place for Kretlow and the others in his taekwondo class.
The members of this group are part of the Whitefish Bay Jewish Community Center’s Wellness 360 program, which is based in wellness, recreation and social activities for adults that identify with a disability, and it’s led by Sarah McCutcheon.

"We were really looking for something that was unique and different and would cater to everyone’s abilities," McCutcheon said. "And we found JK Lee about a year and a half ago."

It was around that time that Ethan's mom, Lisa Votapek, found out about the program.
Why you should care:
"When he joined, he wasn’t really doing anything. We were just playing video games all day, which is difficult because there’s not a lot for him to do during the day," she said. "So, as he started going to the program, he was excited."
Kathy Kludt, the head taekwondo trainer, has been working with Ethan and the group since the beginning.

"The whole group has evolved so much and they’ve really started having fun and coming out of their shells and physically trying things they didn’t think they could do," Kludt said. "And that’s the most rewarding part for me."
