"Frank Kaminsky Day:" Badgers standout has high-school jersey number retired in Lisle
LISLE, Ill. (AP) — College basketball great Frank Kaminsky will had his high-school jersey number retired Thursday, April 16th in Lisle.
The 7-foot Wisconsin Badgers center was honored at Benet Academy, where he played from 2007 to 2011. The mayor of Lisle declared April 16th "Frank Kaminsky Day."
Kaminsky — who saw little playing time in his first two years in college — led the Badgers squad to the NCAA finals before losing to Duke. But Wisconsin beat previously undefeated and overall No. 1 seed Kentucky along the way.
Last week Kaminsky won the John R. Wooden Award as college basketball's top men's player. Former Naperville Central hoops standout Candace Parker took the Wooden prize for best women's player in 2007.
