Gov. Walker declares 12-12-12 Aaron Rodgers' Day in Wisconsin

MADISON -- Gov. Scott Walker declared Wednesday, 12-12-12 as Aaron Rodgers Day in Wisconsin in response to constituent request. 

The day honors Rodgers' contributions to the state of Wisconsin on and off the football field.  12-12-12 was selected in honor of the Green Bay quarterback’s jersey number.

"Aaron Rodgers, what I like about Aaron getting to know him the last few years, he's not only a great quarterback, he's just a really decent person.  He's unselfish -- not only by professional athletes measurements (which sometimes is a pretty relative term) but I think he's just a very unselfish guy in general, so fittingly, when he heard about it he encouraged people to donate to charity. We're obviously very proud of him. I think for most of us, it's completely scratched out of our mind that guy who used to play quarterback," Gov. Walker said.

Rodgers is an active member of the community and works closely with the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund, the Salvation Army and various other community organizations.

Raised in California, Aaron Rodgers was a two-year starter for the University of California.  He was drafted in first round of the 2005 National Football League draft by the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers was named most valuable player of the 2011 Super Bowl and was named the 2011 NFL league MVP.
