Green Bay Packers 4-6 on the season after 42-24 loss to Washington Redskins on the road

WASHINGTON -- The Green Bay Packers are in our nation's capital Sunday night, November 20th for a matchup with the Washington Redskins -- Green Bay's second game of a three-game road trip.

The 4-5 Packers head into this game coming off a 47-25 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Ahead of the game, the Packers announced outside linebacker Clay Matthews WOULD be active for the game -- as would tight end Jared Cook.

Matthews did not play vs. the Titans -- sidelined for a third straight game, and a fourth overall this season due to a lingering hamstring injury.



The following players will not play in Sunday night's game:

As play got underway Sunday night, the Packers won the coin toss and opted to receive.

The teams traded punts to start the game.

The Packers were forced to punt during their first possession of the game.

During the Redskins' first possession, Packers' outside linebacker Nick Perry sacked Redskins' QB Kirk Cousins for a seven-yard loss, and the Redskins were forced to punt.

Soon, Packers' punter Jake Schum dropped a 58-yard punt down on the Washington six yard line.

Washington's punting team came back onto the field after inside linebacker Blake Martinez's pass deflection on second down.

Washington would score first -- with 2:56 left in the first quarter.

It was Redskins' wide receiver DeSean Jackson for the touchdown, and the Redskins then led the Packers 7-0.



As the first quarter came to an end, Packers' wide receiver Ty Montgomery was able to convert a pair of first downs.

Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers was able to scramble for a first down on fourth-and-two as the second quarter got underway.

The Packers' first touchdown came courtesy wide receiver Jordy Nelson -- with a 13-yard catch.

With the extra point, the score was then TIED at 7-7.

The Packers' scoring drive included 17 plays in 8:29 for 75 yards gained. The drive began at the Packers 25 yard line.

During the Redskins' next possession, Packers' Julius Peppers was able to deflect a pass on third down to force a Redskins' punt.

The Packers soon announced cornerback Demetri Goodson was out of the game with a knee injury.

Packers' wide receiver Randall Cobb was able to bring in a 15-yard catch across the middle for a Packers' first down.

Soon, the Packers were able to pull ahead 10-7 with a Mason Crosby 36-yard field goal.

The Packers' scoring drive included nine plays in 5:22 for 38 yards gained. The drive began at the Green bay 43 yard line.

The Redskins led the Packers 13-10 after a failed two-point conversion.

As the second half got underway, Julius Peppers was able to sack Redskins' QB Kirk Cousins for a four-yard loss on third down.

Redskins' kicker Dustin Hopkins was able to complete a 37-yard field goal to extend Washington's lead to 16-10.

The Packers in the third quarter announced guard Don Barclay was out of the game with a shoulder injury -- his return questionable.

In the third quarter, tight end Jared Cook picked up 47 yards on an over-the-shoulder catch.

Cook had been out since Week 3 with an ankle injury.

Mason Crosby later attempted a field goal -- but his kick was no good.

Washington would then take over at its own 26 yard line.

Washington increased their lead to 22-10 after a touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to Jamison Crowder, and failed two-point conversion.

Then came a play from Packers' Jared Cook -- who was able to pull in a 29-yard pass from QB Aaron Rodgers on third-and-three.

The Redskins led 22-10 at the end of the third quarter.



Early in the fourth quarter came a Green Bay Packers touchdown!

James Starks was able to break free for a 31-yard touchdown catch.

With the extra point, the score was then Redskins 22, Packers 17.

Washington answered with a touchdown of their own to extend their lead to 29-17 with 14:25 left in this game.

Soon came another Packers touchdown -- courtesy Jared Cook, who caught a six-yard pass.

The score was then Redskins 29, Packers 24.

The Packers' scoring drive included eight plays in 4:21 for 82 yards gained. The drive began at the Green Bay 18 yard line.

A one-yard touchdown run by the Redskins' Robert Kelley put Washington ahead 35-24 after a missed extra point.

The Packers announced late in the fourth quarter linebacker Blake Martinez and safety Kentrell Brice were out of the game with knee and back injuries -- questionable to return.

Washington took over at its own 28 yard line after a Packers fumble.

The Redskins extended their lead to 42-24 after a touchdown by Robert Kelley late in the fourth quarter.

The final score: Redskins 42, Packers 24.

The Packers are now 4-6 on the season.

Green Bay next face the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday night, November 28th.
