Packers gear up for New Orleans

What does the next week of the NFL regular schedule have in store for the Packers? The 1st & North team talks it through.

The Green Bay Packers return to Lambeau Field, hosting the New Orleans Saints with a chance to clinch a playoff berth. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. on Monday night, Dec. 23.

Green Bay (10-4) is coming off its first win at Seattle in more than a decade. Entering Week 16, the Packers sit third in the top-heavy NFC North; the Packers and second-place Vikings are the NFL's only teams with at least 10 wins that are not leading their respective divisions. The Saints (5-9) sit third in the NFC South.

The Packers are 18-10 against the Saints all time, a series that dates back to 1968 when the teams went head-to-head in Milwaukee. The teams have never met in the playoffs.

Green Bay is 11-3 at home against New Orleans, including an 18-17 win last season in Week 3. In the Matt LaFleur era, Green Bay is 2-1 against New Orleans.

Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints

Packers punter Daniel Whelan entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent when he signed with New Orleans in 2022. Linebacker Eric Wilson played for the Saints in 2022, and Green Bay signed him off New Orleans' practice squad that October.

A number of former Packers players now suit up for the Saints: running back Jamaal Williams, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, offensive lineman Lucas Patrick and defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles.

Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst started his NFL career as a coaching intern with New Orleans in 1995. Jahri Evans and Matt Giordano, who previously played for the Packers, are now part of the Saints' coaching staff.

The game marks the 32nd straight season the Packers will play on Monday night – the NFL's longest appearance streak in the history of Monday Night Football.
