Ice prepped for another season of Admirals hockey

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Admirals hockey team is gearing up for another season at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee. But it cannot happen until the ice is down and ready for skates.

On Monday, October 7th, a crew of about 12 prepped the floor where the Admirals hockey rink will be set up for the 2013-14 season. BMO Harris Bradley Center Manager of Operations and Engineering Tony Schopp says the crew is responsible for layering ice, paint and sponsor decals.

"It's not that hard. It's just a matter of waiting for everything to dry, in-between layers. So, it's just kind of--it's really watching paint dry," said Schopp.

The ice will remain in place throughout the next seven months or so. But it'll be covered by basketball courts, performance floors, and various games and events.

The Milwaukee Bucks pre-season home opener is scheduled for this Saturday -- against the Charlotte Bobcats. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Admirals' first regular season home game is set to skate the following Saturday, October 19th -- against the Chicago Wolves.
