Juuse Saros stopped all 26 shots, guiding Admirals to shutout vs. Checkers
MILWAUKEE -- Juuse Saros stopped all 26 shots he saw to guide the Admirals to their second straight shutout in a 3-0 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday night, February 16th at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Ads shutout the Iowa Wild 2-0 on Sunday thanks to a 23 save effort from Marek Mazanec.
This was the first time the Ads have had back-to-back shutouts since January 9 and 10 last season in a 1-0 win over Rockford and a 5-0 win against the Checkers.
It was the second shutout of the season for Saros and sixth overall for the team.
After a scoreless first period Max Gortz put the Admirals up 1-0 just 1:35 into the second period. Gortz come streaking down the middle of the Charlotte zone and took a feed from Matt White. Gortz was denied by Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre on this first attempt, but MacIntyre was unable to secure the puck and Gortz crammed it home for his 10th goal of the season.
Later in the second White pushed the Ads lead to 2-0 when he fired a shot from the goal line that bounced off MacIntyre's shoulder and into the net. Gortz earned an assist on the goal, which was White's seventh of the season.
Kevin Fiala scored an empty-netter with 1:52 to play in to seal the win.
The Ads get right back at it tomorrow night as they head to Grand Rapids looking for their fourth consecutive win. They'll return home on Saturday night when they host the Manitoba Moose at 7 pm at the BMOHBC.
