MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Marquette University students and fans of the school's basketball team are quick to weigh in on the departure of coach Buzz Williams.
Many Marquette students say they're sad, but not surprised.
"I'm sad to see him go. He was a great coach. He really led the team to a lot of good places," said student Peyton Conlin.
"I'm hopeful for the team in the next coming years, but we're going to miss Buzz," said student Elric Erving.
The school's interim athletic director maintains that the future is bright.
"It's not unexpected," said Bill Cords. "It's never easy. It's always hard to say goodbye, but it's always really pleasant to say hello, too."
Williams lead Marquette to five straight NCAA tournaments, but was less than successful this past season.
Cords says he'd like to see a new coach hired as soon as possible and has confidence the opening will attract a very high caliber of candidates.
