Marquette Golden Eagles top Butler Bulldogs 75-69
MILWAUKEE — Henry Ellenson scored a career-high 32 points, including a critical bucket in the final minute, and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Marquette over Butler 75-69 on Saturday.
The 6-foot-11, 245-pound freshman turned in his 13th double-double by hitting 8 of 14 shots and making both of his 3-point attempts. He made 14 of 16 free throws and blocked six shots.
His tip-in off his own miss gave the Golden Eagles (15-7, 4-5 Big East) a 72-69 lead with 28 seconds left. Marquette added four free throws while Butler (14-7, 3-6) missed a pair of 3-pointers.
Another freshman, Traci Carter, made five 3-pointers for a career-high 15 points and Jujuan Johnson added 11 for Marquette, which shot 52 percent.
Kelan Martin scored a career-high 27 points for the Bulldogs. Kellen Dunham and Roosevelt Jones 15 had each.
Marquette led the final nine minutes but not by more than six.
